Wilhelm Ohmen - Biography ( ger. / fr. )

Following Wilhelm Ohmen’s first appearances in Paris, London, Berlin and Zurich, the music world found itself singing his praises time and again, impressed by his discriminating touch and deep sensitivity to style. This was the dawning of a tireless series of concerts.

Wilhelm Ohmen’s tours take him to most countries in Europe, to Japan and South America. He has given recitals in Madrid, Brussels, Edinburgh, Stockholm, Helsinki and St. Petersburg. Some of the highlights include his recitals and concerts as soloist accompanied by the orchestra in the Berlin Philharmonic, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Berlin, the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Festival Chopin in Paris and a recital broadcast live on television from the opera house in Kiev.

For some years now Wilhelm Ohmen has been attracting attention with his interpretations on record. His very successful debut with works by Prokofiev was followed by recordings of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Brahms, and Debussy. His productions of „Berühmte Zugaben“ vols. 1-2, „Mozart Fantasien“ and „Beethoven: Die drei berühmtesten Sonaten“ appeared under the EMI label.

Wilhelm Ohmen teaches at the Saarland University of Music and publishes piano pieces (Schott International). Parallel to his work as a soloist and teacher, he is increasingly turning to accom-paniments to song.
